Pegula Beats Gauff at 2025 WTA Finals
Jessica Pegula defeated defending champion Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-2 in a 2-hour, 12-minute match at the 2025 WTA Finals in Riyadh. Gauff struggled with her serve, committing 17 double faults and 58 unforced errors, and has a roughly 9.9% double-fault rate this season among top-50 players (Tennis Abstract). Pegula converted nine of 18 break points and used tactical discipline to disrupt Gauff’s rhythm. The loss underscored Gauff’s recent inconsistency despite a strong season that included a Roland Garros title, but she is not yet eliminated from the round-robin. The tournament features a strong American presence, with four U.S. players in the singles draw, and Pegula’s win moved their head-to-head to 5-3.
