Delta Airlines Struggles After Global IT Outage

Delta Air Lines is currently facing significant operational challenges due to a global IT outage caused by a faulty software update from CrowdStrike, which has led to over 10,000 flight cancellations and nearly 45,000 delays nationwide. The airline has struggled to restore its systems, with more than half of its IT infrastructure being Windows-based, requiring manual resets and repairs. Delta has canceled over 5,500 flights since the onset of the disruption, accounting for approximately 80% of all U.S. flight cancellations. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has initiated an investigation into Delta's handling of the situation, emphasizing that passengers have the right to fair treatment. Delta's CEO, Ed Bastian, indicated that the airline is working to resolve these issues but warned that it may take several more days to get back to normal operations. As frustration mounts among stranded passengers, Delta is extending travel waivers and offering refunds or e-credits to affected travelers.
