Gospel Singer Lulu Roman Dies at 78
Lulu Roman, born Bertha Louise Hable in Dallas in 1946, has died at age 78 in Bellingham, Washington. She became famous for her comedic and musical performances on 'Hee Haw,' appearing on the show from its premiere in 1969 until its end in 1993, after being recommended by Buck Owens. Overcoming a difficult childhood in an orphanage, health struggles, and substance abuse, she later became a successful gospel singer, earning a Grammy nomination, multiple Dove Awards, and induction into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Roman released over a dozen albums, many inspired by her personal journey. She was also recognized for her advocacy on behalf of children's welfare, heart health, and addiction recovery. The cause of her death has not been made public.
