Royals Sign Former Cy Young Winner Keuchel to Minor League Deal

The Kansas City Royals have signed former AL Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel to a minor league contract, with the 37-year-old left-hander set to report to Triple-A Omaha. Keuchel, who won the 2015 Cy Young Award with the Houston Astros and was part of their 2017 World Series championship team, has pitched for multiple teams since leaving Houston, including the Braves, White Sox, Diamondbacks, Rangers, Twins, and Brewers. In 2024, he appeared in four major league games for the Brewers, posting a 5.40 ERA, and recently demonstrated a fastball velocity up to 92 mph during a workout. The Royals, currently second in the AL Central but trailing significantly behind the division leader, are bolstering their pitching staff following an injury to ace Cole Ragans, with other veterans like Rich Hill also signed to minor league deals. Keuchel’s career record stands at 103-92 with a 4.04 ERA, and he can earn a prorated $2 million salary if promoted to the majors.
