SNL Star Kenan Thompson Plans Randy Savage Biopic Based on Late Brother's Script

A biopic titled "MACHO" about iconic wrestler "Macho Man" Randy Savage is in development by Artists for Artists, the production company co-owned by Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson and Johnny Ryan Jr. The film is based on a completed script co-written by Savage's late brother Lanny Poffo and Eric Shapiro, capturing the colorful wrestling era of the 1980s and Savage's influential career. Thompson, a lifelong fan who previously worked with Savage on a Nickelodeon promo in 1999, expressed great enthusiasm about bringing Savage's story to the screen. Randy Savage was a charismatic and multi-time world champion in both WWE and WCW, known for his flamboyant style and iconic promos, and tragically died in 2011 following a heart attack while driving. The project is still in early development stages, with no timeline, cast, or distribution plans announced, and WWE is not currently attached to the film. This will be the first feature film to explore Savage's life, highlighting his legacy as one of wrestling's greatest and most beloved figures.
