She began her acting journey in the 1950s after moving to California and was signed by Universal, also performing in rodeos. Sturgess was married to musician Dale Anderson until his death in 2003. Her television appearances spanned about 300 episodes, with significant roles in several Western series. After retiring from acting in the '70s, she dedicated her time to her family and raising her daughter.
