Mets Place Senga on IL With Hamstring Strain
New York Mets ace Kodai Senga suffered a right hamstring strain while covering first base during a win over the Washington Nationals and will be placed on the injured list pending MRI results. The incident, initially blamed on Pete Alonso's high throw, was clarified by both Senga and manager Carlos Mendoza, who stated the injury occurred before Senga jumped, absolving Alonso. Senga, the MLB ERA leader at 1.47, leaves a significant void, but the Mets, leading the standings at 45-24, have received strong recent performances from David Peterson, Griffin Canning, and Tylor Megill. Paul Blackburn is expected to fill in, with Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas nearing returns. Former Mets ace Johan Santana commented on the importance of other pitchers stepping up in Senga's absence. The team is also exploring trade options for additional rotation depth as they manage both short- and long-term needs.
