Following the tragic deaths of candidates during physical tests for excise constable recruitment in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has suspended the recruitment drive for three days and formed a committee to investigate the causes of the fatalities. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called for a National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) inquiry and criticized the Jharkhand government for conducting the tests in 'excessive heat'. While the Jharkhand Police report 12 deaths, Health Minister Banna Gupta claims only four fatalities have occurred, leading to conflicting information. Sarma has demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and suggested rescheduling the tests after September 15, along with providing nutritional support to candidates. The BJP plans to ensure jobs for the affected families if they come to power in Jharkhand's upcoming elections. The physical tests began on August 22 and are set to continue until September 9, with over 127,000 candidates participating.
