Healy explained that drawing from personal experiences, such as his 'casual romantic liaisons,' is an 'obvious' and 'uninteresting' approach to songwriting. His brief relationship with Swift in 2023 coincided with increased public attention, but he emphasized focusing on his art rather than public lore. Despite their short-lived romance, Swift's latest album, 'The Tortured Poets Department,' reportedly includes songs inspired by their time together. Healy, however, prefers to challenge the status quo in his music and avoid topics that become outdated by the time of a record's release.
