Teen Charged with Murder in Newark Police Shooting

A 14-year-old suspect has been charged with murder and attempted murder after a shootout in Newark, New Jersey, resulted in the death of Officer Joseph Azcona and critically injured another officer. The incident occurred near Broadway and Carteret Street when officers were investigating possible illegal firearm possession. Officer Azcona, a five-year veteran, was fatally shot before he could exit his vehicle and was later pronounced dead at University Hospital. The second officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, who also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, has not been identified due to being a minor. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to clarify the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
