LA County Reviews Report on Wildfire Notification, Evacuation Failures Amid Eaton, Palisades Fires

Separately, Southern California Edison has acknowledged partial responsibility for sparking the Eaton Fire and has created a claims fund for victims, but its liabilities threaten to deplete the state's wildfire insurance pool established to prevent utility bankruptcies from wildfire damages. California lawmakers are considering extending customer surcharges and replenishing the wildfire fund to prevent financial collapse of utilities like Edison and maintain statewide wildfire liability coverage.
