Reds' Tyler Callihan Undergoes Surgery, Out at Least Two Months
Cincinnati Reds rookie Tyler Callihan is expected to miss at least two months after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured left forearm sustained while attempting a catch during a game against the Atlanta Braves. The injury occurred during Callihan's fourth major league game, when he crashed into the wall and lost the ball, resulting in an inside-the-park home run for Matt Olson. Reds manager Terry Francona reported that the surgery went as planned and Callihan will not participate in baseball activities for six to eight weeks, but he has not been ruled out for the season. Callihan was placed on the 10-day injured list, and the Reds made several roster adjustments in response, recalling outfielder Jacob Hurtubise and pitcher Lyon Richardson from Triple-A Louisville. Utility player Santiago Espinal started in left field for the subsequent game. Francona described Callihan's expected recovery timeline as 'remarkable,' considering the seriousness of the injury.
