Berkeley Police Shooting Leads to Critical Injury
On Sunday morning, Berkeley police shot a 33-year-old man who allegedly threatened officers with a firearm during a domestic violence incident on University Avenue. Officers responded to a report of a woman screaming for help, and upon arrival, the suspect made threats and exited the residence armed. Despite attempts at negotiation, the suspect re-emerged with a firearm, leading police to open fire, critically injuring him. The man was transported to a local hospital, while the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave. Several investigations are underway, including by the Berkeley Police Department and the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. The area was declared safe after evacuations and road closures due to a suspicious item discovered near the scene.
