Michigan Man Drowns Attempting Girl Rescue Indiana Creek
Maximo Disla-Garcia, a 56-year-old man from Wyoming, Michigan, drowned while attempting to rescue a young girl struggling in the strong current of Sugar Creek at Turkey Run State Park in Indiana. The incident occurred near the park's suspension bridge, where Disla-Garcia and his family had been playing. After the girl got into trouble retrieving toys swept away by the current, Disla-Garcia entered the water to help but was overtaken and pulled under by the current. The girl managed to save herself, but Disla-Garcia did not resurface, and his body was recovered about an hour later. Authorities, including the Parke County Sheriff's Office and multiple fire departments, responded to the scene, and an autopsy confirmed his death as an accidental drowning. The incident has prompted condolences from local officials and responders.
