Skubal, Skenes Lead MLB Award Nominations
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes has been nominated for both the National League Cy Young Award and the NL Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award, following a historic rookie season with a 1.96 ERA and 170 strikeouts over 133 innings. Skenes, who started his MLB career in May 2024, became the first rookie to start an All-Star Game in 29 years, and could be the first Pirates pitcher to win the Cy Young since Doug Drabek in 1990. Meanwhile, Detroit Tigers' Tarik Skubal is a finalist for the American League Cy Young Award, having led the league in wins, ERA, and strikeouts, while manager A.J. Hinch is nominated for AL Manager of the Year. Skubal's performance was pivotal in the Tigers' first playoff appearance since 2014. The MLB awards winners will be announced later in November on MLB Network.
