Ringgold Road Shooting Suspect Surrenders; Multiple Shootings

A deadly Sept. 30 shooting on Ringgold Road left 20-year-old Kamren Castro fatally wounded; police said it was one of several shootings this week and described the Ringgold incident as an isolated, relationship-related case. Officers initially searched and closed part of Ringgold Road while seeking a suspect described as a Black male with shoulder-length dreadlocks; police later obtained an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Zyaire D. Northington, who turned himself in Wednesday night in connection with Castro’s death. Separately, a 19-year-old was charged with criminal homicide in a Franklin Street shooting that killed 22-year-old Jayden Ruggles, and authorities said the Franklin and Ringgold homicides were both linked to relationship-related conflicts. Additional shootings near Main Street and University Avenue wounded at least one adult man—and, by some accounts, a woman—and investigators said probes are active and urged anyone with information to contact police.
