Former NFL and CFL running back Cierre Wood has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years for the second-degree murder of his girlfriend's 5-year-old daughter, La’Rayah Davis. Wood also received an additional sentence of 28 months to six years for felony child abuse, which must be served consecutively. The charges stem from April 2019 when Davis was found dead in Wood's Las Vegas apartment with severe injuries, including 100 bruises, 20 broken ribs, and a lacerated liver. Wood entered an Alford plea, acknowledging sufficient evidence for conviction while maintaining his innocence. The child's mother, Amy Taylor, also pleaded guilty to similar charges earlier this year. Wood had brief stints with several NFL teams and the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes.
