Lt. Daniel Zeigler of the Savannah, Missouri Police Department has been charged with animal abuse following the death of his K-9 partner, Horus, who died after being left in a hot police vehicle on June 20. Zeigler reportedly informed Police Chief Dave Vincent that Horus was dead at around 5:54 p.m. that day. Subsequent investigations revealed that the vehicle's AceK9 safety system, designed to prevent such incidents, had been manually deactivated. Witnesses reported seeing Zeigler distraught and admitting fault for the death. The temperature on the day of the incident reached 88 degrees Fahrenheit, which contributed to Horus's heat exposure and subsequent death. The case is currently pending with no judge assigned as of September 6.
