Kami Rita Sets Everest Record; Season Sees More Firsts

Kami Rita Sherpa, a 55-year-old Nepali mountaineer, broke his own world record by summiting Mount Everest for the 31st time, leading an Indian Army team to the peak on May 27, 2025. This achievement further establishes his legacy as a prominent figure in global mountaineering. Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa also set a remarkable record by summiting Everest four times within 15 days this season. Over 500 climbers reached the summit during the 2025 spring season, marking a period of notable records. Geeta Samota, a 35-year-old Sub-Inspector, became the first CISF personnel to scale Everest, highlighting the increasing diversity among climbers. These accomplishments underscore the extraordinary abilities of veteran Sherpas and the expanding achievements of climbers from varied backgrounds.
