Anonymous Donor Funds Removal of Milwaukee's Abandoned Boat

After more than six months stranded near Milwaukee's Bradford Beach, the abandoned boat 'Deep Thought' is finally being removed, thanks in part to an anonymous donor who has offered to help cover the estimated $25,000 cost. The boat, abandoned by new owners from Mississippi after running out of gas last October, became a local eyesore and safety hazard as it deteriorated and was repeatedly vandalized. Responsibility for its removal initially sparked confusion and finger-pointing among city, county, and state agencies, but Milwaukee County was ultimately tasked with the job, with assurances that taxpayers would not bear the cost. Salvage attempts led by Jerry Guyer of Silo Marina have been ongoing, with crews recently cutting the boat into pieces to facilitate removal, despite unclear reimbursement and county authorization. County officials have stated they will seek reimbursement from the responsible parties, though legal ambiguities remain regarding ownership. The operation is expected to conclude soon, weather permitting, ending months of frustration and concern over environmental and public safety risks.
