Concurrently, Ukraine faced significant drone attacks from Russia, particularly affecting the Sumy region, where over 280,000 households lost power due to assaults on energy infrastructure. On September 16-17, Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted 34 out of 51 Russian drones launched towards multiple regions, with additional measures leading to the loss of 12 drones. The attack, primarily executed with Shahed-type UAVs, aimed to disrupt Ukraine's power grid and civilian infrastructure. Despite the ongoing threats, Ukrainian forces managed to mitigate damage through effective air defense operations. As a response to these escalating drone threats, NATO's air policing and integrated defense capabilities are being emphasized as critical measures.
