Nebraska Promotes John Butler as Defensive Coordinator

Nebraska football has officially appointed John Butler as the new defensive coordinator following the departure of Tony White to Florida State. Butler, who previously served as Nebraska's secondary coach, has a solid track record, having coached successful defenses in the NFL and previously as Penn State's defensive coordinator. Under his guidance in 2024, Nebraska's defense ranked 18th in total defense and featured a secondary that returned three interceptions for touchdowns. Additionally, Nebraska is hiring Phil Snow, a long-time assistant to head coach Matt Rhule, as the associate head coach, and Terry Bradden from the Kansas City Chiefs as the new defensive line coach. These changes come as part of a broader staff reshuffling as Nebraska heads into the 2025 season with both coordinator positions filled. The team aims to build on its 6-6 record from the previous year and is preparing for the Pinstripe Bowl against Boston College.
