London Bus Driver Jailed for Drugged Fatal Crash
Martin Asolo-Agogua, a 23-year-old double-decker bus driver, was sentenced to four years in prison after fatally striking nine-year-old Ada Bicakci and injuring her five-year-old brother in Bexleyheath, southeast London, while under the influence of cannabis and sleep deprived after a night of partying. The crash occurred on August 3, 2024, when Asolo-Agogua fell asleep at the wheel, causing the bus to mount the pavement and hit Ada as she rode her bike with her family. Ada died from catastrophic injuries two days later in hospital, while her brother survived. Asolo-Agogua pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs, and was banned from driving for seven years. Ada’s family, devastated by her loss, have called for systemic change to prevent drug driving and vowed to honour her memory through advocacy. Law enforcement officials condemned Asolo-Agogua’s actions as reckless and highlighted the lasting impact on Ada’s family and the community.
