Dave Sims is set to become the new play-by-play announcer for the New York Yankees radio broadcasts on WFAN, succeeding the retired John Sterling, who left the position early in the 2024 season after a 36-year tenure. Sims, known for his energetic style and signature calls such as 'Hey now!' and 'Bye-bye!', has been a prominent broadcaster for the Seattle Mariners since 2007. The 71-year-old Philadelphia native is returning to New York, where he began his media career and previously hosted shows on WFAN and served as a radio host for the New York Knicks. Sims will join Suzyn Waldman in the Yankees radio booth under a two-year contract. Rickie Ricardo, the Yankees' Spanish language announcer, was also considered for the position. John Sterling briefly returned to call the Yankees' postseason games but will not continue into the 2025 season. Sims is also a nominee for the 2025 Ford C. Frick Award, honoring excellence in baseball broadcasting.
