Three Airline Workers Sentenced in Cocaine Smuggling Scheme at Sydney Airport

Three men have been sentenced to a total of over 15 years in prison for their involvement in a failed cocaine smuggling operation at Sydney Airport. The men, aged 63, 57, and 25, were part of a scheme to import 100 kilograms of cocaine from Johannesburg in October 2023, with their roles involving leveraging their employment at the airport to facilitate the importation. The 63-year-old received a 10-year sentence, while the 57-year-old was sentenced to three years and the 25-year-old to two years and nine months. The Australian Federal Police launched an investigation after suspicious activity was reported in the cargo area, leading to the discovery of the plot. Two additional suspects connected to the syndicate are still facing charges in court.
