Former Deputy Sean Grayson Granted Pre-Trial Release
Ryan Schick, a former Sawyer County sheriff’s deputy, has been sentenced to a two-year deferred entry of judgment after pleading guilty to felony stalking and misdemeanor disorderly conduct related to his violent conduct towards a colleague. The court dismissed additional charges, including felony strangulation, but imposed strict conditions including surrendering his law enforcement certification and avoiding contact with the victim. In a separate case, former Illinois deputy Sean Grayson, charged with the first-degree murder of Sonya Massey, may soon be released following an appellate court ruling that overturned a prior denial of pre-trial release. Judge Ryan Cadagin will determine the conditions for Grayson's release on December 6, despite opposition from Massey's family and the state’s attorney's intention to appeal the ruling. Grayson shot Massey in her home after she called 911, leading to public outcry and protests demanding justice for her death. The legal proceedings surrounding both cases highlight ongoing issues of domestic violence and accountability within law enforcement.
