Hug, Scaroni Win Boston Marathon Wheelchair Titles
At the 129th Boston Marathon, Switzerland's Marcel Hug claimed his eighth men's wheelchair title, finishing in 1:21:34, while American Susannah Scaroni won her second women's wheelchair crown in 1:35:20. Hug, marking his fifth consecutive victory in Boston on the 50th anniversary of the race's first official wheelchair finisher, pulled away from early challenger Daniel Romanchuk to secure the win. Scaroni, who missed last year's race due to injury after winning in 2023, surged ahead late in the race to defeat Swiss competitors Catherine Debrunner and Manuela Schar. Both winners highlighted the historical significance of the event, with Hug expressing appreciation for wheelchair racing pioneer Bob Hall, whose chair design influenced his early career. The race took place under favorable weather conditions, contributing to a smooth and competitive event for all participants.
