Bayer Leverkusen Nears £40m Deal for Liverpool Defender Quansah

Bayer Leverkusen are close to reaching a deal with Liverpool for defender Jarell Quansah, with a transfer fee expected to be just over €40 million. Quansah, a product of Liverpool's academy, had a breakout season in 2023-24 but struggled for consistent game time under the current manager, prompting him to consider his future. The deal would be a record transfer fee for Leverkusen and follows their recent significant signings of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Liverpool. Liverpool are reluctant to sell Quansah but could be tempted by a sizable offer, especially as their defensive options are in flux with Ibrahima Konaté nearing contract end and other defensive players facing uncertainties. Quansah is currently with the England Under-21 squad and has given his approval for the move. The negotiations between the clubs are ongoing but are separate from the Wirtz transfer, which is nearing completion.
