Seahawks Sign Veteran Shaquill Griffin, Waive JT Woods

The Seattle Seahawks have officially signed cornerback Shaquill Griffin to a one-year contract worth $3 million, potentially reaching $4 million with incentives, marking his return to the team that drafted him in 2017. To make room on the 90-man roster, Seattle waived cornerback JT Woods, a 2022 third-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers who had limited NFL experience and recently transitioned from safety to cornerback. Griffin brings veteran depth to a strong Seahawks cornerback group led by Pro Bowlers Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen, and will compete with Josh Jobe for playing time. Griffin started 53 games and made a Pro Bowl during his first four seasons with Seattle before spending time with multiple other NFL teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, and Minnesota Vikings. The Seahawks valued Griffin's experience and production over Woods' potential, as Woods had only appeared in 13 career games and did not make it to training camp with Seattle. Griffin's return is expected to bolster the secondary despite missing offseason practices and minicamp, as he will integrate into head coach Mike Macdonald's system during training camp.
