Tennis Participation Surges to 25.7 Million in U.S.

Tennis participation in the United States reached 25.7 million players in 2024, marking the sport's fifth consecutive year of growth, according to the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA). This represents an 8% increase from 2023, with significant contributions from younger players, as those under 25 accounted for 45% of the growth. To support further expansion, the USTA has pledged a $10 million investment in 2025 for building and refurbishing public tennis courts, a notable increase from the previous year's $1.2 million. Despite the rising popularity of pickleball, which has grown to over 13 million participants in just three years, tennis continues to thrive. The USTA aims to increase total participants to 35 million by 2035, promoting accessibility and engagement in the sport. Additional statistics reveal a 26% increase in Black players and a 15% rise among Hispanic players in tennis participation for 2024.
