The Philadelphia Flyers have appointed Wayne Simmonds as their community relations ambassador and hockey operations consultant. Simmonds, who played eight seasons with the Flyers and retired in April 2024, is celebrated for his community involvement and leadership, earning the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2019. Alongside Simmonds, the Flyers announced several other hires, including Reid Simpson as Director of European Pro Scouting and Kedryn Orrison-Pilgrim as head athletic trainer for their AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Simmonds, known for his physical play and scoring prowess, tallied 203 goals and 378 points with the Flyers and was an NHL All-Star in 2017. His return to the organization is seen as a positive move, reflecting his strong connection with the team and the community.
