Michael Tait Admits Sexual Misconduct, Drug Abuse Amid Multiple Allegations
Michael Tait, the lead singer who recently departed from the Christian rock band Newsboys, has publicly admitted to allegations of drug abuse and unwanted sexual advances toward men. Following a two-and-a-half-year investigation by The Roys Report revealing accusations of grooming and sexual assault from three men during 2004 to 2014, Tait released a statement titled "My Confession" acknowledging much of the substance of these claims, describing his actions as sinful and expressing deep remorse. He revealed that his sudden departure from Newsboys in January 2025 was to seek treatment for long-standing cocaine and alcohol abuse, spending six weeks at a Utah rehabilitation center, and that he has been sober since. Tait also confessed to living a double life, deceiving his family, friends, fans, and bandmates about his behavior, and acknowledged the lasting harm caused by his actions. The Newsboys members expressed their devastation and heartbreak upon learning the details, while some survivors recounted how grooming occurred under the guise of professional mentorship within the Christian music scene. Despite no formal charges, the revelations have sparked significant discussion about accountability and transparency in the Christian music community.
