China Builds World's Largest Artificial Island Airport

China is constructing the world's largest artificial-island airport in Dalian, Liaoning province, aiming for completion by 2035. Named the Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport, it will cover 20.9 square kilometers, surpassing other notable artificial-island airports like Hong Kong International and Kansai. The project, which costs $4.3 billion, involves extensive land reclamation and will initially accommodate 43 million passengers annually, eventually expanding to handle 80 million passengers and 1 million tonnes of cargo per year. Strategically located near Japan and South Korea, Dalian is a significant hub for trade, oil refining, shipping, logistics, and tourism. The new airport is expected to enhance Dalian's connectivity and economic significance by becoming a major regional transport hub.
