Turkey enacts 25% electricity price hike, April 5
The Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) announced significant increases in electricity and natural gas prices effective April 5, 2025, reflecting rising production and distribution costs. Residential electricity prices will rise by 25%, while public and private services will see a 15% increase, industrial users a 10% hike, and agricultural activities a 12.4% increase. A household consuming 100 kWh will now pay 259.04 lira (approximately $7). Additionally, natural gas prices for industrial consumers will increase by 20%, and for electricity producers, prices will jump by 24.2%. These adjustments come amid ongoing inflation, adding to the financial strain on households and businesses in Turkey. The EPDK emphasized that there will be no changes in natural gas prices for residential use, which remain stable.
