At Least 56 Killed in Sudan Fighting Amid Escalation

Fierce fighting in Sudan on Monday resulted in at least 65 deaths and over 130 injuries, with heavy artillery shelling reported particularly in South Kordofan and Darfur. The city of Kadugli experienced devastating attacks attributed to the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), while a military airstrike in Nyala caused additional casualties. In a separate incident, a brutal attack on a crowded vegetable market in Omdurman killed at least 54 and injured 158, overwhelming local hospitals amid dire conditions. The ongoing conflict, which began in April 2023 between Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions.
