Starz Premieres Magic City Docuseries Featuring Drake, Quavo, Shaq
Magic City: An American Fantasy is a five-part docuseries premiering on STARZ on August 15 that explores the history and cultural impact of Atlanta's iconic strip club, Magic City, known as a pivotal hub for Black culture and Southern hip-hop. The series features interviews with notable figures including Drake, Jermaine Dupri, Quavo, Shaquille O’Neal, Big Boi, 2 Chainz, Nelly, and club founder Michael “Mr. Magic” Barney, who share personal stories about the club’s influence on their careers and the broader music scene. Drake praises Magic City as “one of the wonders of the world” where Black music and artists flourished, while Quavo credits the club with being essential to the rise of Migos. The docuseries also delves into the club’s darker side, including its ties to crime and the legal troubles faced by Barney, who served time for drug conspiracy. The series debuted at SXSW in 2024 and offers unprecedented insider access, highlighting Magic City's role as a unique cultural institution in Atlanta and beyond. STARZ’s president of original programming, Kathryn Busby, describes the show as a perfect complement to the network’s culture-driven programming.
