Nine Dead in Fall River Assisted Living Fire
A deadly fire broke out Sunday night at the Gabriel House assisted living facility in Fall River, Massachusetts, killing nine people and injuring at least 30 others, with victims found both inside the building and at local hospitals. Firefighters arrived to heavy flames and smoke, rescuing dozens of elderly residents, including at least a dozen who were physically carried out. The response involved approximately 50 firefighters, including 30 off-duty, and the entire city police force. Five firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released. Although fire damage was confined to one wing, smoke affected the entire three-story building. The cause remains under investigation, and officials have expressed deep sorrow, calling the incident an 'unfathomable tragedy' for families and the community.
