Mets Sign Two-Way Top Draft Pick Mitch Voit for $1.75 Million
The New York Mets selected Mitch Voit, a former University of Michigan standout, with the No. 38 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft and signed him to a $1.75 million contract, below the slot value of $2.57 million. Voit, primarily a second baseman this past season, impressed with a .346 batting average, 14 home runs, and 60 RBIs, while recovering from elbow surgery that ended his pitching for the year. Though initially designated as a two-way player, the Mets plan to develop him mainly as a position player but remain open to his pitching potential if necessary. Voit has played multiple positions in college and was praised for improving his hitting approach, drawing comparisons to former Michigan two-way star Jake Cronenworth. After signing, Voit experienced his first Mets batting practice and will soon begin his professional career in Port St. Lucie. The Mets' VP of amateur scouting highlighted Voit's talent, versatility, and potential, emphasizing the collaborative effort in the drafting process.
