China, Brazil, Ghana Advance Electric Vehicle Market Expansion

Electric vehicle (EV) adoption is gaining momentum globally, with significant developments in Ghana, Brazil, and China. Ghana, despite having one of the highest EV adoption rates in Africa dominated by Chinese brands, faces major challenges due to inadequate charging infrastructure, with only seven public charging stations as of 2024, all in Accra. In Brazil, Volvo Buses has introduced a fleet of 21 electric articulated and bi-articulated buses in Goiânia, marking the first global operation of fully electric bi-articulated buses in regular service, emphasizing sustainability and advanced safety features. Meanwhile, GAC Motor from China is aggressively investing over US$1 billion in Brazil to capture the growing EV market by launching electric and hybrid models and planning a local factory alongside a national charging network. In China, Guigang's New Energy Electric Vehicle Industry Development Conference highlights a decade of growth in EV manufacturing and cooperation within ASEAN markets, with a production base capable of millions of two- and three-wheeled EVs annually, aiming to boost intelligent manufacturing and cross-border industrial collaboration. These developments collectively underscore a global push towards sustainable transportation, though challenges like infrastructure and market readiness remain critical in various regions.
