Kaler, who had never cut his beard in adherence to Sikh practices, was unconscious at the time. Despite the family's explicit instructions against shaving, hospital staff proceeded, leading to demands for an apology and a full review of the incident. William Osler Health System acknowledged the incident, expressing deep concern and committing to an extensive review while emphasizing respect for religious rights and continuous improvement in patient care practices.
