Despite initial plans for a theatrical release, the sequel was postponed after Chapter 1 earned only $23 million in its first two weeks, prompting efforts to allow more audiences to discover it. Costner, who has invested personal funds into the project, aims to complete a total of four films in the saga, with the third already in production.
