Ferrari Reveals SC40 One‑Off F40 Tribute
Ferrari’s Special Projects division unveiled the one-off SC40, a bespoke commission based on the 296 GTB that intentionally references the 1987 F40 in name and styling. Designed in-house by Flavio Manzoni’s Styling Centre, the SC40 wears sharp, angular bodywork with a tall fixed rear wing, smoked Lexan engine louvres, a debossed “SC40” on the wing, exclusive white paint and wheel treatments, and carbon/Kevlar interior cues. Underneath it retains the 296’s electrically assisted 3.0‑litre 120° V6 architecture — including an axial‑flux motor and F1-style dual-clutch transmission — reportedly producing about 830 hp, rather than the F40’s twin‑turbo V8 or a gated manual gearbox. Observers describe the car as a modern reinterpretation rather than a literal remake, trading some of the F40’s rawness for contemporary cooling, safety and aerodynamic requirements and sparking debate over Ferrari’s use of historic icons in personalization. The SC40’s price was not disclosed but is expected to be in the seven‑figure range, and the car exemplifies Ferrari’s wider approach of pairing race-derived hybrid technology with nostalgic styling as it moves toward electrification while evolving its combustion engines.
