Former Intel CEO Launches AI Benchmark Measuring Human Flourishing

Former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has launched Flourishing AI (FAI), a new benchmark to evaluate artificial intelligence models based on their alignment with human values and overall contribution to human flourishing. Developed in partnership with the faith tech company Gloo, which Gelsinger invested in about a decade ago, the FAI benchmark draws from The Global Flourishing Study by Harvard and Baylor University, focusing on dimensions such as character, relationships, happiness, purpose, health, financial stability, and notably, faith and spirituality. This initiative marks a shift from traditional AI metrics that prioritize technical performance or harm prevention toward an ethical framework emphasizing AI's positive impact on human well-being. Gelsinger, who stepped down from Intel in December 2024 after a 40-year career, expressed a longstanding personal mission to merge faith and technology, aiming to ensure that faith-based communities have a voice in shaping AI's future. The inclusion of faith and spirituality sets this benchmark apart by embedding moral and spiritual considerations into AI evaluation, an area often overlooked in existing standards. Overall, Flourishing AI represents Gelsinger's commitment to guiding AI development toward enhancing human life ethically and holistically.
