Spirit Adds First Low-Cost Flights at Macon

Spirit Airlines will launch nonstop flights between Macon's Middle Georgia Regional Airport (MCN) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) starting October 16, 2025, representing the first time a low-cost carrier serves Central Georgia. The service, in partnership with Contour Airlines, will operate twice weekly with introductory fares starting at $49.99 one way. The route will use Spirit's 176-seat Airbus A320, the largest passenger aircraft at MCN, and aims to connect travelers to South Florida as well as onward destinations in the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean. Local officials, including Mayor Lester Miller, emphasized the significance for regional tourism and business. This new service is part of Spirit's expansion in Georgia, supplementing existing and upcoming routes in Atlanta and Savannah. Further route announcements are expected under the Spirit-Contour partnership, reflecting a broader commitment to improving air access in underserved Georgia markets.
