ACMA Finds Multiple Vulgarity Breaches on Kyle & Jackie O KIIS Shows
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is considering enforcement actions against the KIIS network for the Kyle and Jackie O Show's repeated breaches of decency rules, including vulgar, sexually explicit, and deeply offensive content aired between August and December 2024. The investigation revealed 12 breaches in 2025 alone, involving segments such as guessing games with audio clips of staff urinating accompanied by graphic comments on genitals, menstruation, and oral sex, as well as offensive descriptions of sexual positions and lewd discussions of masturbation and pornography. Despite previous warnings and the imposition of additional censors, the program continues to broadcast unacceptable content, leading ACMA Chair Nerida O’Loughlin to state that the Australian Radio Network (ARN), as licensee, appears unwilling or unable to control the presenters. Enforcement actions could include additional license conditions, court-enforceable undertakings, or even suspension or cancellation of the broadcaster’s license. ARN has disputed claims of inaction, stating that steps have been taken to improve processes following the 2024 content issues, highlighting the show's large loyal audience. Nonetheless, ACMA’s findings underscore systemic problems with the show’s compliance and content standards, putting ARN under increasing pressure to manage its broadcasting responsibilities effectively.
