Five Soldiers Shot in Fort Stewart Shooting
An active shooter incident at Fort Stewart, the largest U.S. Army base east of the Mississippi, left five soldiers wounded Wednesday morning in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area. The base entered lockdown at 11:04 a.m., with the suspect apprehended by 11:35 a.m., and most areas reopened just over an hour later. All five injured soldiers received on-site care before being transferred to Winn Army Community Hospital. Authorities have not released the identities of the shooter or victims, nor the motive for the attack, and the investigation remains ongoing. President Biden and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed condolences and support for the Fort Stewart community. Officials have confirmed there is no continuing threat to the public.
