Vancouver Canucks Trade Top Goaltender Prospect Arturs Silovs to Pittsburgh Penguins
The Vancouver Canucks have traded their top goaltending prospect, Arturs Silovs, to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round draft pick. Silovs, 24, was instrumental in leading the Abbotsford Canucks to their first-ever Calder Cup win, earning AHL Playoff MVP honors with a .931 save percentage and five shutouts during the playoffs. Despite his success in the AHL and stepping up during the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs due to injuries to Thatcher Demko and Casey DeSmith, Silovs struggled in NHL play, posting an .861 save percentage in 10 games this season. With Demko and Kevin Lankinen secured on long-term contracts, the Canucks felt their goaltending depth was sufficient and decided to trade Silovs to provide him with an opportunity elsewhere while adding organizational depth through Stillman, a forward with AHL experience. The trade reflects Vancouver's confidence in its goaltending pipeline, including prospects like Young and Medvedev, and the need to manage roster constraints such as waiver eligibility. Silovs' move to Pittsburgh offers him a fresh chance to compete for NHL playing time with a new team.
