Mumbai Cyber Police have arrested Kalpesh Sevak, a web designer, and Amol Patel, who impersonated a MHADA officer, for creating a fraudulent website mimicking the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) portal, deceiving at least 15 people out of a total of Rs 50 lakh. Others involved in the scam, including a graphic designer and an Android developer, have also been arrested. The fake site closely resembled the official MHADA site and featured direct payment options, bypassing the usual application process. The arrests were made following a complaint by MHADA officials, highlighting the importance of verifying information through official channels. The suspects have been remanded to police custody as the investigation continues, with authorities suspecting further involvement of additional accomplices.
