Analysis of Legacy Data Backlog at Gulkana Site

The Gulkana Site in Alaska, a significant location for ancient copper artifacts, has been overlooked due to a backlog of legacy data in archaeology. Current research at Purdue University is leveraging digital methods, including AI, to reanalyze historical records and engage the community, aiming to bridge past and present. Despite yielding crucial insights into Ahtna history and copperworking, the site's importance has been undervalued, highlighting broader challenges in managing archaeological data. Efforts are underway to make these hidden histories accessible and relevant through educational programs for Alaska Native youth, emphasizing the cultural significance of the site and its artifacts.
