George Baldock Death Ruled Accidental Drowning
George Baldock, a former defender for MK Dons, Sheffield United, and Panathinaikos, died from accidental drowning in his Athens swimming pool on October 9, 2024. An inquest at Milton Keynes Coroner's Court found no drugs or alcohol in his system, and a post-mortem revealed an enlarged heart that made him susceptible to arrhythmias. Greek police found no evidence of criminal activity, and resuscitation attempts at the scene were unsuccessful. Baldock had played a club match three days before his death. His passing prompted tributes from clubs and fans, including a moment of silence and black armbands at a Nations League match between England and Greece. His family described him as a beloved father, fiancé, teammate, and friend whose personality brought joy to many.
